Everyone had left my brotherâs burial one by one, leaving me and my boys to mourn. Amirah had been standing there rubbing my back and shit, and although I knew she was just trying to be there for a nigga, I really wanted to knock her ass the fuck out for being all over me like that. I didnât expect to break down the way I did when they started lowering his casket in the grave, but I was even more fucked up. If that was even possible.
My Earth and pops were the first ones to peel out, then several other family members were next, followed by Yay and Baby Girl, who met My Earth in the limo.
I stood there watching them lower my brother in the dirt, feeling a mixture of emotions. I felt so fucking responsible for everything that had happened, and even though I knew it wasnât my fault, I couldnât help but feel like it was. The only thing that had helped settle the hunger inside of me had been death. And even that only lasted a few.
I said my last goodbyes to Zy, throwing the rose I had in my hands in the ditch and walking away arm and arm with Amirah.
I was only a few feet away when I felt a hand on my shoulder; it was Cash and Ru.
âYoâ, we finna go and meet you over at your momsâ crib,â Cash said.
âIâm sorry again for ya loss, bro,â Ru said, hugging me.
âYeah, I know. Iâll meet yâall niggas over there.â
Ru nodded. âTrue. Louie and Rique are riding with Sky and Prince there now. Be easy,â he said, walking away.
Cash hit me with a head nod and followed his direction, then Mirah and I continued on. I had decided earlier that I didnât want to drive to the funeral in the limo with my family because it was too depressing for me. Crazy as it was, my moms was holding up better than I had expected. She was a warrior like that though, so it didnât surprise me too much.
âBaby, I was thinking⦠maybe tonight after we leave momsâ, we can get a nice room and relax. I know youâve been stressing lately and I was thinkingâ¦â
Amirahâs voice trailed off. The wind blew and I could smell her presence. Her hair scent and her perfume invaded my nostrils. Removing my shades from my face, I looked up and my eyes connected with hers. Lani was looking so beautiful, it was breathtaking. Her flawless skin glowed even on the gloomiest day. She wore a big oversized hat on her head, with her long hair running past her shoulders. For a minute, I just stared at her, taking in her beauty, and feeling her presence.
I couldnât believe she actually came back. Or maybe I could believe it because Lani had a good heart. I guess I couldnât believe she came back and hadnât stopped by my crib. Well, maybe she had, but then again if she did, Iâm sure Amirah would have gotten her ass whooped.
